HOJICHA for cold weather

While warm weather is giving way to cool weather, keep a cup of green tea close at hand!

Researchers have found that people who drink green tea have better blood vessel function just 30 minutes later. Specifically, green tea improves the function of endothelial cells. Endothelial cell dysfunction plays a key role in the development of clogged arteries, a process called atherosclerosis.*

Another great tea for cool weather is Hojicha (ho-jee-cha), which means ‘roasted tea’ in Japanese.

Hojicha makes an amber color tea with naturally less caffeine than regular green tea, because roasting reduces the caffeine in tea leaves.

Although it also decreases some types of Catechin antioxidants, the roasting process produces a compound called Pyrazine, which is reported as “antithrombotic” or reducing blood clot formation.** A cup of Hojicha enhances blood circulation and warms you up.

Pyrazine is an organic aromatic compound, directly contributes to the flavor and smell of roasted foods, producing a characteristic chocolate or caramel like aroma. This aroma induces alpha waves in the brain. Alpha waves are connected with mental calmness, integration, and learning states of the brain.***
