Green Tea Powder FAQ

1. How to make a cup of tea with green tea powder?

Just mix powder (1/4 to 1/2 tsp.) in 6 - 8 oz water, hot or cold.  For the best warm cup, use 175 degrees F water.  For cold tea, use chilled water.  No boiling, brewing, or chilling.

2.  Does the powder dissolve?

Being natural green tea leaf and with no chemical emulsifier, green tea powder suspends rather than dissolves in water.  So, green tea powder mixes well even in cold water.  Other "instant" freeze dry powders that dissolve in water are made from "brewed tea" and do not offer as much EGCG or Catechins.

3. Can I use cow milk with green tea?

Milk protein, especially Whey, extends green tea antioxidant effect.  Latte, Smoothies, Protein shakes with green tea powder are all tasty, healthy treats.

4. Can I add lemon and sweetener?

Vitamin C enhances antioxidant activity of green tea, so lemon is a good addition.  If you are diabetic, do not add sugar to green tea.  Green tea antioxidants controls blood sugar level if sugar is not added to green tea.

5.  How can I flavor green tea without sugar?

You can use other types of sweetner, such as honey, agave, stevia, etc.  Or, you can add a piece of dried fruit, such as mango, banana, or pineapple.  If you enjoy smoothies, just add 1/2 tsp. green tea powder per serving to your favorite smoothie. Make "green tea latte" is one of the good ways to enjoy green tea benefits if you are not wild about green tea flavor.  Just mix powder with 1 or 2 teaspoonful water and add warm milk of any kind, and stir well.  Sei Mee Tea® offers flavored green tea powder products, which you can use to make a delicious cup of tea and latte.

6. Can I cook with green tea powder?

Using green tea powder as an herb is a great idea.  Green tea adds not only antioxidants, but also "UMAMI (oo-mah-me)", savoriness to the food.  Green tea antioxidants are also scientifically proven to reduce carcinogens in meats when they are cooked with high heat, such as BBQ.  See our green tea powder recipes
